ABOUT THE STATE OF TENNESSEE

The southeast state, Tennessee, is bordered by eight different states and is dominated on its eastern side by the Appalachian Mountains where the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located. The western border is formed by the Mississippi River. Nashville is the state’s capital and largest city. The next largest city is Memphis, located alongside the river.

The state is considered the first constitutional government west of the Appalachians, was the 16th state in the union (USA).

In the 20th century, Tennessee’s transition from a farming economy to a more diversified one aided by large financial investments. It’s partially famous for its housing of uranium materials contributing to the Manhattan Project during World War 2. It’s also well known as the home of country music.
